Pro Team Poker—Business Concept
Professional poker has become big business.
Tournaments and purses have been growing steadily for the last twenty years. This year the 2006 World Series of Poker championship is anticipating a payout of over $8 million to the winner in Las Vegas. And those numbers are only growing.
There has been a resurgence in professional poker that’s taking on changes by leaps and bounds. It’s come, in part, because cities and casinos are recruiting tournaments to help their economy. Cities all across the United States and Canada are clamoring for matches in order to create foot traffic or visitors to their place of business. In today’s lifestyle, with so much to do and so many challenges for disposable income, you have to do some spending to get a good return on your investment. It’s just like any entertainment business.
Poker has regained its popularity over the last twenty years. People are going back to the way they thought in the 1950s and 60s. It seems that with all the distractions in the ‘60s like the Vietnam War and the advent of cable television, it wasn’t popular to think poker was neat back then. But it’s come full circle again. People are rediscovering poker.
The boom that poker enjoyed in the ‘90’s was ushered in by businessmen, casinos and city leaders who foresaw the huge economic impact the game could bring them and acted upon that initiative. Poker, more so than being an entertainment activity, is an economic issue that cities need to deal with. For every dollar brought in by professional poker, it is estimated that it turns over approximately seven times in the community. Many sports operators who have conducted surveys claim a city with a major league team stands to gain as much as $400-million in income each year!

The Case For A New Poker Association
For the past several years, poker, as it existed under casino management has done well. Attendance is up year after year. Profits are being made. People in large population centers are being treated to a form of sports entertainment at a high cost for an evening. Poker interest has grown. Television ratings are at an all-time high!
So why would a new poker Association be of interest or desire?
Now, more than ever before, it is time for the expansion of professional poker with a style and entertainment value that can be afforded by everyone. And ownership, and the cities and towns with these Member Clubs, will reap the benefits! The very best and most exciting sport in town, poker should heavily emphasize promotions and entertainment values that will benefit everyone.
